All TV, radio and print media outlets monitored by MOM have a legal status and are directly owned by a Moroccan media company. As for the online media, it should be noted that as of August 2017, they did not require a license nor to be run by a registered media company. Thus, of the seventeen online outlets, two (Badil and Barlamane) could not be linked to any editing company.
We have thus compiled the thirty-six media companies or groups that own the forty-six media outlets included in this analysis. The large majority do not own several outlets, are present in only one media sector and do not hold investments in other sectors of the economy. Key economic players, the royal family and the state are present mainly in the TV sector, a section of the radio sector and French-language print outlets.
